Default Making your own Box Calls.

I just ordered a kit from Custom Sawing. It comes with wood to cut and make 4 box calls. The type of wood is Cherry, Sassafras, and Walnut. I'm looking forward to trying to build them. Anyone have advice on putting together a nice sounding call?

I started with the Custom Sawing kits myself. It's a great way to start! Just follow the blueprints they supply the first few times and take your time.

Once you get the hang of it you can get ideas from other calls you own that sound good to you.

If you stick with it and find you have &quot;the touch&quot; you'll be hand-carvin' calls outta mahogany blanks in no time. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Mauser... you basically need a woodshop. You know... table saw, scroll or band saw... sanding station etc, etc, etc...

How good do they sound???...
Well, that all depends on the person makin' the call.

Yes, www.customsawing.com is the site. You need a table saw and a scroll or band saw.

I have a thing,I make one or two calls each year and give them to young hunters.I make mine out of cedar and cherry sometime I add a little maple.I have a fairly large wood shop.I make furniture in my spare time (only a couple days a year off from hunting.
I make walking canes from sparkleberry and give to the old folks that can't aford to by them.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.
