Why should it surprise you..??... Until the late 60s or early 70s when 3"mags became commonplace, a 30" full choke barrel was STATE OF THE ART for long range work such as turkey hunting... It certainly should shoot a good killing pattern of # 6 or perhaps even # 4 shot at 40 yards, with buffered 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 oz. loads..

The gun will do just fine. The main reason for shorter barrels on today's turkey guns is it is easier to swing on a bird and gets hung up in brush less when running and gunning.

But if yo sit a blind that barrel length will not hinder you at all.

Call them up close - less than 30 yards and any shotgun will do the job on a head shot.

I started turkey hunting with a similar vintage Remington Mod. 11. (Browning clone)30" barrel full choke. I could get turkey killing patterns to 30 yd. with standard magnum duck loads. Those old shotguns had tighter chokes than the current models because they had to pattern shells with no shot cups, just wads. I think you'll be surprised by the capability. Try some turkey loads.

Be caredful as in some states a .410 caliber might be illegal. Why did I say caliber? Because that is what it is as it is not a guage.

So do read your states game laws.
