Cold Fronts and turkey hunting

Cold Fronts and turkey hunting
this morning a nice little cold front came in sending the temp down into the upper 40s. We were hunting yesterday and we had a bird coming but he didn' t want to cross a stream. Today, we had 5 birds gobble on roost but it seems that they shut up as soon as the hit the ground. Does cold fronts affect the calling of a gobbler?

Maybe they had hens with them. From my experience, they often quiet down as soon as the hens arrive. Then they go into strutting behavior. Did you try sticking around a while? Sometimes they will start gobbling again (crow calls, geese). Also try sneaking very quietly and carefully towards the last gobble. Keep your eyes peeled (use binoculars--watch out for other hunters) --maybe you will find " them" with their hens---then go to work on calling the hens the toms will definitely follow!

Depends on your location. im from Louisian and down here a cool snap will shut them up in a hurry. but i was just in Michigan last week, where it was 26 to 35 degrees in the morning, snowing one morning, and the birds were tearing it up. Five of us tagged our birds in 2 days.
