camoflouge for South Dakota
Could someone give me an idea of the best camoflouge pattern to use in the prarie areas of South Dakota. I am a Georgia boy who will be going out in a couple of weeks to hunt turkey. I have been told that it is prarie, cotton wood and cedar. I know cedar, but I have no idea about prarie and cotton wood trees. any help would be appreciated, I am truly a flatlander!

What do you currently have? Most of the patterns will work in the areas where the trees are. If you don't mind purchasing some new stuff, Nat Gear is about as good as it gets for the area you are going. Works equally as well in the praries as it does in the trees.

I hunted in South Dakota a few years ago and I just used the same camo I use here in Ohio. Had no problems. I just got back yesterday from Kansas and the terrain is very similar with no issues. You will be leaning against trees or brush anyway so just don't move and you'll be fine. By the way you will love S.D. there are a lot of Merriams there.

I just bought ASAT and it seems to be very versatile for all types of terrain...I have never used it till this season and wil let you all know, but those who do use it swear by it.

Nothing but cottonwoods to set up on unless your using blinds. We had real good success using UltimateCamo withlots ofhunters in SD. Had guys telling us they had deer and turkey walk within feet several times.

If your going with an outfitter call to see what they suggest. If your not using an outfitter try what you have. The key to camo is breaking up the outline of the human body... Hiding in the shadows, using terrain, and forage to make yourself invisible...

Pretty much any camo will work, you just have to be still. Every time I have hunted out west I just use the same camo I use here in NC.
