Rem Hevi-Shot #5' s vs: Win. #5' s, results.
Both were shot out of a Rem 870 Super-Mag, 23" barrel with a .655 Ventilator choke at 40 yards. The Rem. hevi-shot was a 1 3/4 oz #5 and the Win, was a 2 1/4 oz #5 copper plated. The overall pattern looked about the same with the Rem being a little smaller. The Win put a few more shot in a 24 inch circle but not many especially when you campare the 2 1/4 oz vs the 1 3/4oz loads. On one test I had the target stapled to a piece of 1" x 12 white pine, The Win. lead shot looked like the pellets penetrated about half way thru the lumber with none passing completely thru it. With the Rem Hevi-Shot about half of them passed completely thru the lumber and splintered the back side pretty good. Over all I liked the Winchester pattern a little better I guess on account of more shot, but the Rem was very impressive in shooting completely thru the 1x12. I would say both put at least 90% of thier shot in a 30" circle at 40 yards.
