RE: ..Three inch circle?????
Never used the 3" circle method. I attached a turkey picture to a large peice of poster board and aimed a couple of inches below the head. I did this four times and adjusted my aiming until the best of the pattern hit the kill zone. AT 40 yards I can put 10 pellets consistantly in the kill zone. Thats good enough for me. I guess
15 in a three inch circle sounds about right. Depends on your overall pattern, consistantcy, etc.

RE: ..Three inch circle?????
i use a 10" circle to pattern mine(taking into account the turkeys quick head movement) and i use 30yards to site in(more realistic hunting distance)
i am averaging 210 hits of winchester 2oz. #6' s.......don' t know for sure how that would equate to a 3" circle(well i sorta do, how about 1/10 the area i think) which would give me around 21 hits.......anyways, i am satisfied with this result.
i actually think that a 3" circle is way to ' iffy' to use. one shot could put 25 in, the next 5. you may have to go thru a box of shells just to give you an average
