choke restriction
What restriction do you prefer on your turkey choke?I presently have the ulti full choke that came with my 835 mossberg. This is a 690 restriction but I' m thinking I should go tighter, any thoughts?

RE: choke restriction
That depends what size shot you want to shoot. I just got a hasting' s .660 vented
choke for my Rem. 870 and have tested several loads through it. The best
pattern for it was the Win. 3 1/2 inch High Velosity #6' s with 2 oz. of shot.
I tried the Federal 2 1/4 oz. #6' s but the Winchester load patterened better.
In all reality you have to test your gun to see what it likes.

RE: choke restriction
The Mossberg Ulit-Mag does not like really tight choke constrictions. Look into it more before you buy one but .685-.690 is about right. Try different brands of chokes like Rhino, Kicks, or Tru-Glo that in itself can make a huge difference. The gun likes the larger constrictions because of the way Mosseberg back-bores the Uti-Mag barrel.

RE: choke restriction
I agree with dsheally. I tried Win HV #6s and Fed. 2 1/4 #6s and there was no comparison, the Winchesters won by a landslide. This was in a Charles Daly auto with a Hastings .650 choke.
Generally, the tighter the choke, the smaller the shot size you should go with. I don' t have an 835 so I can' t recommend particular chokes. I would suggest that you start your patterning with Winchester HV ammo, as it patterns well out of most guns I have shot.
BTW, not to be the grammer police, but it is choke constriction, not restriction.

RE: choke restriction
I have a .685 Hastings in my 835 and it patterned really well with Winchester HV 3.5" 5' s and 4' s. I use #4' s and couldn' t be happier---a real turkey thumper.
From all that I have read---Turk-man is right---the 835 does not like tighter constrictions.
