Shotgun/Choke Question
Got my stepdads Winchester Model 1300 MWTF 12 ga. today. Its 2-3/4" & 3". My question is does anyone have experience with this particular model? If so which winchoke chokewould you reccomend, the mod., full or extra full? I plan on using 3" shells and wanted to know which 3" shells you guys have had luck with for turkey.

RE: Shotgun/Choke Question
I have the 1300 Ranger. I shoot a Hastings extended choke tube in the .665and it seems to like the Winchester Supreme #6's. I've dropped birds like a sack of taters out to 45yrds. That is the farthest I've shot with this set-up and that bird folded over and never flopped! I wouldn't shoot any farther with it though. You will have no problem killing birds with that gun. Just do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a good choke tube.

The Primos Jellyhead is a pretty good one, you can pick one up for around fifty bucks. I have one in my gun right now and it performs pretty well. Dropped a gobbler stone dead last season at 41 steps. I have anIndian Creek choke on the way, we'll see how it does.

RE: Shotgun/Choke Question
Winchester does not recommend using any choke but the Winchoke chokes in guns made for the Winchoke system. The model 1300 NWTF is made for the Winchoke system and has Winchoke engraved on the side of the barell. Will an aftermarket choke damage the gun?

RE: Shotgun/Choke Question
An aftermarket choke will not damage the gun. Just tell the manufacturer of the choke that you have the winchoke system and they will sell you their choke with winchoke threads. Personally I prefer Indian Creek, but you might try a few others to see what patterns best out of your gun.
