He is definately darker than normal, and infact he'd be rahter dark winged even for a osceola.
A melanistic phase bird, however, would have nothing but black.... no brown spots... no white spots.... just black. I'm not trying to be a kill joy or anything here... he definately has some dendancies and traits... but I don't think he is what you'd consider "textbook".
Nice bird though, very cool, very unique.... certainly will make a nice conversation piece.

Ya know - even though the spurs are short and the beard is short that tail fan in your picture tells me adult and not Jake!
I wonder if that color phase had something to do with the spurs and beard growth?
Any nice - haven't take that dark color phase - have seen melanistic and piebalds out there tho.

Pretty cool. Even though he was a jake, ida shot him as well. Great job, get him mounted may be the only one youll ever get like that.
