My opinion wont be very fair...I haven't ever shot a Nova and I own an 870, so I would have to go with the 870. I do know the 870 is a rock solid gun and there has to be some reason why it is the most popular selling shotgun of alltime.

My 870 just got handed down to a third generation. My uncle gave me several guns years ago. He hunted with each of them for many years, and then I did the same. One of the gunsis the 870 that my 14 year old now shoots. He has hammered several nice toms and a whole mess of ducks with it. It is older than my 39 years, and still shoots lights-out every time. A close friend has a Nova, and he loves it. I'm sure it is a super gun. I wouldn't have any reason to buy anything other than an 870. I have a 10 year old that is graduating up from a single shot 20 guage pretty quick. I figureI will putan 870 in his hands.

I shot an 870 my entire life up until a few years ago when my 870 started getting bulges in the barrel. It was in the middle of hunting season so I had to replace it and bought a Nova. Now I'll never switch back. Remington gave me a hassle when trying to replace the barrel. Later that year my Dad won an 870 Super Mag in a raffle and the thing never did cycle a 3.5" shell through it and had to be replaced. I like the 870 but I lost a lot of confidence in the company and now I wouldn't think about using anything but my Nova for a turkey gun.
