Hunting turkey with a bow
I've shot alot of turkey with a shotgun but I've never shot one with a bow until last Tuesday. My friend likes shotgun hunting better but I like bow hunting. Just wanted to find out what everyone else liked?

RE: Hunting turkey with a bow
I just killed my first gun kill yesterday. All I've done up to now has been by bow. In cental AL the turkey population and the big hardwood bottoms make it easier to bowhunt turkeys. Here you don't have to have a blind, just big trees. A bow killed turkey is the ultimate in hunting. However, after moving to south AL where the turkey density is much lower and fewer hardwood forests, I had to go to the shotgun if I wanted to have a higher success rate. In my opinion, you have to call in at least 5 or 6 birds inside bow range for every one that you could get with a gun. When I first started hunting turkeys, I started with the bow. My friends said I was crazy, but that's what I wanted to do. It took two years before I broke the ice, but I did it and then did it again and again.
Hunting turkeys or anything for that matter is about your drive and passion. Do what you want, so long as it is legal and ethical. Don't look down on another hunter for choosing a different weapon. Share your common passion and pursuit.
Bowhunting turkeys is great, but so is gun hunting.

Once you get a bird with a bow, you will see. Just like in deer hunting, there isn't anything more exciting than putting an arrow in one. I use a shotgun for the first day of the season, then my bow for the rest of the time. Bow kills are much more rewarding.
