Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Smokepole Smackdown!

This morning was the first time I called in and killed a bird myself. I have killed a few other birds and called in a few but never did them both by myself. This is also my first public land turkey. I am a pretty happy guy right now!. Had birds gobbling all morning from roost until I killed this one. I wasted some time calling to some birds on the other side of a raging creek. They were on private land and they were henned up. I heard birds back behind me so I headed that way. I would strike my box call a couple of times listen for them and them move to close the gap. I didn't want them intercepted by someone else out there. When I got as close as I felt was safe,(75 yds), I set a single hen deke out and got set on a big oak about 15 yds away. It didn't take long, after 5 minutes and a couple more cutts on the box this one and another came in from my left at 15 yds. I gave him my left barrel and sealed the deal. I turned towards the other hoping for a shot with the right barrel but he was long gone in the thick oaks and underbrush. What a great morning! The birds were dead quiet yesterday so I'm glad they got vocal today.
I took this pic because I was amused by the sign. I happen to fit both criteria!
15lbs 6" beard 3/8 & 1/2" spurs No boss but I'm PROUD!!!
