.410 and turkey.
Well for my little one they have a .410 we got it for them to hunt deer, and had the barrel cut for shooting slugs because it had a full choke. It would shoot slugs good out to about 50 yards. Now since we got the barrel cut I don't know excatly how tight the choke would be. There was slighly less than an inch cut off. I was wondering what would be the best load for turkey out of this gun? I know a .410 will kill a turkey cause my dad killed a few we he first started hunting with a .410, but his had a full choke, and he was shooting 3" 4 shot. Being as our barrel doesn't have full choke. I was wondering what shot you think would work best? It'll be shooting 3" loads just not sure what shot sie to get? Thanks for any help

it seems like the #4's are your only bet with the .410. anything smaller with a sawed off barrel yield a looser pattern. i would pattern it if you can but i would also try to get my hands on a 20 guage if at all possible.
as for deer..... keep a look out for 000 buckshot for that thing. 000 size balls fit the shaft of a .410 shell perfectly and are almost like 3 slugs lined up in a cartridge. we have a .410 bolt in the family that is a slayer with those shells. i killed my first at age 7 with a single shot, my brother at 9 with one shot, and my little cousin got his first with it this past season!

Buy them a 20 guage with will only the bird barrel and keep the .410 for deer. The 20 will come in hand for upland game, plus it will get them ready for the "someday" 12 guage. It'll be a good investment for them as upcoming hunters.

There was a long thread about the .410 and turkey not too long ago. Also, for a decent read about the .410 and deer try here:

if you are going to use the 410 ; get some #4 and #6 shot in several different makes and pattern the gun.it may put them all in the target with one make and not hit it at all with another.just that some guns shoot one better then the other.
If you can get a 20 ga. 3" you will be a lot better off.thats all I hunted with for the first 5 years of my hunting life.took all sorts of game with it.no dought it will take a turkey , if you get it close enough.of course, that the name of the game( get'm in close).JMHO.
