choke/ pattern results
I havea new remington 870 super mag, witht the factory super ful trk choke. I shot some Winchester 3.5in, 2oz #4, and some federal 3.5in 2oz #5. I paced off about 40 yards. It was kinda hard because we still have about a foot of snow. The target was a piece of card board cut 10in tall by 6 in wide. The winchester had 50 hits and the federal had 57 hits. The hits were spread out all over the paper. I looked at the tree i proped it on and found alot of the pattern to be to the left. Anyhow, is this a decent pattern, or should i keep working for a better pattern. I'm thinking about buying a undertaker choke and selling the factory choke. How does this pattern sound to you.

It doesnt sound to bad, but you should really get a turkey target and pattern it again. If nothing else draw a turkey head and neck and go from there. I shoot with Federals #5. They throw a great pattern...

I think you need to go get you some turkey targets and paste them to trhe card board and shoot them... Then count just the hits you get in the vitals(brain/neck vertebra) and then you can get a better idea of how good your gun is patterning

ok i just got back. I went and shot again. THis time i shot a turkey target glued to a pizza box. I paced off 40 yards, then stepped back to 45 yards so i could get a rest off a tree. The winchesters had 1 vital hit, nothing else really even close. The federals had 9 vital hits. I don't know, i think the gun could do better. I also wonder if i'm shooting high. Those 3.5 mag really pound on the shoulder, and have muzzle jump.

I agree with Mr. Longbeard...some people think alot of themselves and their guns. I would have to see it to believe it that 30 of 50+pellets hit the kill zone at 40yds. I'd bet to say that that doesn't happen at 10yds.
I know there expensive but if you are willing to spend some money get you a rhino choke. I have one in my Browning Gold 3 1/2 and one in my870 supermag3 1/2" w/ 24" barrel. I shoot 3 1/2" Remington Nitro #4's. At 40steps it will consistently put 15+ pellets in the kill zone.At 15steps you can't distinguish what's what.I like the Rhino's but there are others that are probably cheaper and do just as good or better. I'd suggest getting a couple of chokes and different loads and seeing how they do. Keep the best one and sell the others on ebay or on here or something. Good luck

I say 30+ hits in the turkeys head and neckis possible. Not all will be in the vitals, but there will be quite a few. If were talking just the vitals Id say my gun will have 12 to 15 if not a few more.

check out this link.... http://www.huntingclub.com/Hunting/Shooting_Targets.asp
you can download a couple nice turkey targets and print them out!
one even has vitals with a place to record Distance, hits, shot size, load, guage, length, and so on.
