Best choke with an 870
I just got a Remington 870 Super Mag with a 23" barell, and I have found that it doesn't pattern very well with the factory full choke. I was shooting the Winchester high velocity turkeyloads 3.5 2oz. 6shot. Was it just the shells I was shooting that made it pattern so bad, or is it the choke. I've heard the factory choke doesn't do well with any ammo, so what choke and ammo combination have you found to pattern well with the 870?

haha you heard wrong...i have an 870 express mag(3 inch only) amd with the extended tukey choke that came with it and remington bufferd nitro magnum 1 7/8th oz of # 4s i feel i can take a head off at 15-20 yds..the pattern was GREAT...at 35 yards it still tore upa papper plate pretty bad...id say change loads...i shot the same shells out of my mossberg 500 and a load of 6s and the 6s i barely made a hole in the paper the 4s patternd decintly...i love my combo now though..and that factory choke works great for me

I put a Hastings Extended/Ported choke tube on my 870 last spring. I shot two birds between 10 and 15 yards. Neither bird had any pellets in the body. I shoot a 3" Remington 2oz. #5s. I have also tried Federals and had the same results. I would shoot out to 45 yards.
