RE: I'd Like To Know Your Techique
my spring hunts generally go as follows:
1- roost bird
2- set up close to roost but not so close as to spook bird
3- do a few soft tree yelps before fly down time
4- some soft clucks and purring right at fly down time
5- start shaking badly when you hear him hit the ground
6- get a sinking feeling when you hear that real hen on the other side of his roost tree
7- confirm your fears that he went the other way
8- despirately call too much trying to get him back in your direction
9- go home cursing all the way, eat, sleep repeat.
I don't fall hunt, although I had a NICE longbeard present multiple shot opportunities near my treestand. Landowner there doesn't want anyone hunting turkeys cuz he says they keep the tick population down and he likes them around.
