My first Turkey -- Spring '05
Below is a picture of my first Turkey. It is a funny story.
I was hunting with my cousin and all the sudden we locateda Tom alittle ways down a field we had previously spotted one in. We came in the back side of the field where there was a decent sized crest in the field. The Turkeys didn't spot us due to this crest, so we put a decoy up hoping they would see it. They didn't. We had to improvise. My cousin quick thought of an idea to stand the decoy on a stick that was longer than the original stand. The decoy ended up being 2-3 ft. high which made it stand up normal to the Turkeys on the opposite side of the crest from us. With a couple calls they Tom headed our way and was eventually at the decoy. Standing there looking up...(probably thinking...wow mama, she has long legs) it was quite funny when I think back on it. The longer stick worked and helped me get my first Turkey. What a blast.

Right on Tman10! That looks like a nice one for sure.
It's great when you adapt and create a plan that works. I usually don't mind if they can't see it right away. It forces them to come to the call and have a look and then they're in range. You can have them hang up if they can see it with the Tom expecting the hen to come to him. He'll strut away in view of the decoy but won't come. You can also have them hang up if they can't see anything too . It's a coin toss sometimes I think and you guys picked right. That's sweet.
