cudde's don't impress me, i'd rather save the money and buy 2 moultrie's over 1 cudde...but hey, some people have more money than sense

I honestly dont know which is better cudd or moultrie. I own a moultrie have only had it for about 4 weeks so not a huge length but the picture quality is awesome 4. mega pixel day pictures and 2 night pictures which are black and white due to the ir but I knew that going in as i would rather have no flash just preference. As for battery life i just changed out my sd card yesterday have changed it out twice now this time 423 pictures last time 212 pictures so i have taken 635 picture battery life is still at 88 percent drops to 78 while picture is being taken and then bounces back up and has been down to minus 10 a couple times and every night below zero so battery life to me on my moultrie 1-40 is good but these things are like vehicles ford or chevy some are ford drivers others drive chevys. i drive a moultrie not cause i hate cudd but just cause others driver moultri or cudd just cause they hate the other not cause they have a superior camera but usually cause of a bad experience witht he otehr model.

Heavy Hitter - What model Cuddeback do you have? I had temps in the teens this past week and my Stealth Cam worked like crap! Or I should say didn't work, even with Lithium Energizer batteries which are supposed to work well in cold temps. I am ready to take the plunge and upgrade to a better camera.

Come on you guy's! You can't compare Moultrie to Cuddeback. The trigger speedofthe Cudde smokes these Moultrie's. The picture quality is nothing like a cuddeback, with saying that the Moultrie's picture quality isn't that bad either but just doesn't compare to the cudde or to some of the other high buck cameras. The only downfall about a cudde is the price. There's no reason i guy should have to pay 450.00 for a camera, that is rediculous! The battery life isn't as good either but whats so hard about putting batteries in a camera once in a while.I have a cuddeback no-flash and the picture quality is unbeleivable and the video's are awesome as well. I'm not saying the moultries are no good, i'm just saying there's no way possible you can compare the 2, the cudde will take that prize 10 times out of 10 with quality and trigger speed.I think the reason so many people on hear put the cuddeback down and praise the Moultrie is because they can't afford a cuddeback. I couldn't afford one either but i bit the bullet and bought one. I have veryfew blank pictures to look at, i didn't buy a camera for the price, i bought it for the quality! You get what you pay for when buying these camera's.Just because a person can't afford a camera doesn't give you all a reason to say Moultrie is a better camera then the Cuddeback. Do what your finances allow you to do and be happy with what you got, in time maybe you can upgrade if thats what you want to do.Good luck in your purchase of your camera, its alot of fun looking at what you have in the woods and suprising as well!

Anyone looking for a good deal on Cuddebacks I will be running a sale on all three versions for anyone willing to get 2 or more. I already have them discounted but I will reduce it even more to move out all the 2007 inventory. www.flemingoutdoors.com

Thanks Craig. I saw some good reviews about that camera in hunting magazines. I also like your success with the extremely cold temps. That seems to be my biggest problem right now.

I have owned 3 different Moultrie trail cam models and all three have been very disappointing. The one I was moderately pleased with used a lantern style battery but it kept failing with a "Low battery" indication when a new battery was installed so they replaced it with a different model.

The D-40 and M-40 do not perform in cold weather "period", forget it. The picture quality on the M40 at twilight is worthless. They are either too dark or overexposed from the flash. The flash has about 15 feet of useful range. The Sd card slot on the M40 is in a position that you need tweezers to gain access to. It has an external 12V power source outlet that if you use, it will fry your camera because the camera is designed to run on 9V and there is no inverter in the camera. Plug in 12V and you will smoke the unit. They are designing a proprietary battery to sell you. The temperature reading on the M40 is worthless in warmer temperatures. It always reads very high. The mounting strap loops are very weak. Combine that with the fact that the unit is very heavy. If you over tighten the strap, you will break the strap loops. You are better off to use bunge cords.

The flash on the D40 lasted about 9 months before it failed.

I wish they would go back to the lantern battery. I have many rechargeable lantern batteries. Buying a charger and 6 rechargeable D cell batteries for each camera is not a feasible proposition.

Even though I have a pocket full of SD cards and the Cudde uses a CF card, I think I will make the switch. I am sending my M40 back to BassPro tomorrow.
