Default Digital Trail Camera Advice Needed

I'm looking to buy (or get for Christmas) a digital trail camera. However I'd like one that uses "Memory Stick Duo Pro" cards. I already have some for my Sony digital camera. I'd like to be able to go into the woods, swap memory cards, and view the pics on my camera back at the cabin. My hunting property is an hour from home and I won't have access to a computer when hunting. I'm looking to spend less than $250. Any help would be great.

Check the posts for the one I think is called a Snapshot Sniper. It uses a Sony camera. Many homebrews also use them.

The Camtrakker digital Ranger uses a Sony camera that takes those cards. They work great but are out of your stated price range.

Out of the 18 that I have used none of them use the memory stick and are in the $250 price range.

It is possible to build one with a Sony camera and stay in that range though.

Other than that you'll have to go over $400 unless there is a cheaper one out there that I have not yet seen.

if you are good with a solder iron you can make your own for well under the $250 range. A very common camera that is relatively cheap and easy to modify is the Sony S40. Read about building your own unit at Jesse's Hunting forum.

you can also find these homebrew, homemade cameras on ebay and in other forums but the prices are normally above your range for new units.

don't count out the other commercial models just because the memory doesn't match, holiday sales are on the way and flash cards will be goin on sale

hope this helps

another option would be to get a cheap digital camera that accepts SD cards, and then get a less expensive digital trail cam that takes SD cards also. Im not sure how much digital cameras are running for these days, just a thought.

It will probably be hard to find a good selection of trail cameras that use a memory stick, unless Sony starts making trail cameras. SD cards aren't that much for a pretty big size memory card. Best Buy and Circuit City have them on promotion all the time with half off mail in rebates or rebates that are very, very attractive. Get the camera that you like, then buy two (or get two as stocking stuffers).

If you want to use the pro duo cards you will need a homebrew using a sony s600. Or get the memory stick duo adapter and get a homebrew using the soney s40.
There are several homebrew guys selling them. Snapshot sniper, Yeti cams. Or maybe go to the shop and swap threads on RealDeal hunting chat and maybe find someone selling the cam they built.
