Hey all, I'm new to the site. Been lurkin' for a few weeks now. I have noticed some mention of 200-300gr. BH's with your recurves. It has been about 15 years since I have hunted with my 45#-29in. recurve. I am remembering (quite possibly by mistake) that my BH's were 125gr. and my arrows were 1916 or maybe 2016 alum. How heavyof BH's should I shoot? I am looking forward to be able to hunt again with my bow. Thanks for your help.

I've been using 125 grain bh's for years, and see no reason to switch unless I get a chance at a water buffalo or something similar. Those flying meat cleavers have come about, IMO, due to the popularity of carbon arrows. Carbons are generally light and stiff, but seem to do very well with extreme FOC--a perfect match for a monster broadhead.
Generally speaking, 8-10 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight is fine, a bit more won't hurt. That's finished arrow weight, including the broadhead.
Btw, welcome aboard!

Hi, I have found that the broadheads in the 100 to 125gr range were always easier for me to tune. Im talking about alum and wood shafts. Im shooting Gt3555s now with 125gr field pts, flying like darts. I use lots of helical, and wouldnt be afraid to go with 100 to 125gr broadheads ,myself. Bow is a 41 lb Palmer with carbon in the limbs. Groups are extremely tight. Arrows very fast! Good luck. Tox

It really depends on the arrow. Reason most of us are shooting heavy BH's is we are shooting carbons and would like to get our wieght up and you sometimes have to add wieght to get it tuned right.. At least thats the case for me. For instance, one bow I shoot, I can shoot 3555 gold tip carbons with 125gr or 5575s with 270gr out front.
