RE: What bow to buy ??
I've shot alot of the above myself and I choose to remain with my Howard Hill longbows. I've got the urge to buy Thundersticks,Shrews etc. but the HH longbow is made just the way I learned to like them and it works so why change? I remember talkin to you about a year ago and told you to try them out at the shoots because you are not going to know what you like unless you shoot them. My bow doesn't shoot the fastest, smoothest or cost the most but I have learned to shoot it and I am still learning about the design and features of the bow every day. You need to find what you like and it is not the most expensive bows that make you a good shot or hunter but what you learn to use and get better at. If you want opinions we all have different ones and it will just frustrate you so have fun finding your dream. Do stay with someone reputable and I also have shot the Black Widow Longbow and I thought it was a dog but in their defense there are alot of good Widow shooters out there that love the recurves. Have fun with your quest.

I just reread the post and you say you have five Checkmates already? Why do you need a new bow with all those hanging on the wall? I'm one to talk having owned seven Howard Hill Longbows myself.

LOl Chessbum Yep we did talk around a year ago when I was shooting longbows.I tried a bunch of them and found I shoot recurves much better.I have since tried ALOT of those. So far the best bow I have personally shot has been a checkmate.I have yet to shoot a checkmate recurve I have not liked but there are still alot of bows I haven't tried. Will I ever find a bow that is better than my checkmates prolly not but will I have alot of fun tryin sure will 6th is on order and allready talking about the 7th with the dealer.Everyone prefers the bow that they feel is best and there is room for all of us.More opinions please

Chaparral Archery makes a very nice longbow. They have a try before you buy program, as well. I tried one and was very pleased. Speaking to Bruce was also a pleasure, very helpful. Cost is very reasonable (~$350) and delivery is good too (~6 weeks).
Checkmate also has a nice product. I only own the Raven recurve, but love it. The Crusader is very highly spoken of...never heard a bad thing...

Wow, the Chek MAte virus has got you even worse than me<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>. I just ordered my 4 Crusader. Hey if you're interested in a Soveriegn Ballistik send me an e-mail. A friend has a used one for sale. Suppose to be a good recurve. Something like a 14 month wait for a new one!!!
