Troy,
That is a gorgeous bow. How does she shoot? It looks like highly grained yew to me. The grain on elm would be closer if edge grain and chevronish shaped if flat grain.

Black locust limbs, the reddish spots are in some of the sets with locust for some reason, we are pretty confused why tho, we have tried everything and some still come up. We think it could be some staining from somthing in the pores of the wood. One board we use will get no spots , next board will have them in the limbs.

Hey PD would locust be that white on the sides? locust, elm or yew don't make much diff she shoots good. Shouldn't you be workin on my bow On a side note if that bacote doesn't dry good a solid phenolic riser would be cool to with just the accent stripes in it I will get to see what really nice yew limbs look like when I get that one

Pigdog,
Is it the sweat from your brow dripping on the wood as you slave over it? Perspiration will turn red oak a light purplish color whereever it hits.

Troy,
Nice bow. I hope the new Crusader I just ordered is as pretty. I'm leaving it up to Marc to pick the riser wood, something really distinctive. Wow, how come these threads never seem to dissappear
