Strings ?
At some point in the last year or so I measured my string at 57" . I went to replace it this afternoon . The string I bought said that the "actual" leangth was 57" . It looked an inch too short to me . So I got the next longest one , it was 59" . First - could my string have streched an inch in a year ? Second - the longer string seems good , does it effect the poundage / speed , etc. ? Thanks for the input .

RE: Strings ?
What kind of bow (brand and type), and what type of string material? Some strings will stretch an inch or more--sometimes due to the material, sometimes due to the way they are made, sometimes both.
A longer string will decrease the draw weight slightly, but will increase cast. Hand shock/wrist slap are a couple of indicators that the string is too long/brace is too low, with the exception of a few longbows and selfbows.

I bought a replacement from Black Widow for my PSA it was longer than the original to me. Twisted it up (numerous twist) to my previous brace height and had no problems. After shooting it for a few days it stretched so i adjusted it some more. I always check my brace height at least once a week for string stretch.

RE: Strings ?
The bow is a PSE Kingfisher 45lbs. The string was factory , so ,,, Dacron ? I put abit of twist (on the new one) before installing / knocking . I shot a pretty good fish with it today , so I'd say it's okay . But if it gets any longer I'd worry . It's sounding like I should go with shorter string , then allow it to stretch ? Thanks .

RE: Strings ?
Most likely it is dacron, and dacron has the most stretch/elasticity of any string material on the market (other than some "primitive" materials--sinew, artificial sinew, etc.).
Gettinga shorter string depends on where you get it--a pre-stretched string will settle in a lot less than one that isn't, especially if it's flemish.

I don't know anything about that brand, but most don't bother to pre-stretch. That takes time, and time is money........
Is it endless or flemish (I'm guessing endless). 16 strands on a 45# bow shouldn't stretch that much, even dacron.
