Buy a stringer.
Just because I have mine at 8" doesn't mean you should put yours there though........remember I am shooting 30.5" to the front of the riser and close to 62# or so.
It doesn't hurt to play with different brace heights though just to see what happens, you can ALWAYS put it back.
I have a string made by Saunders I think? Its a braided looking cord with a plastic pocket at one end a limb tab that goes against the face of the limb......Wasn't a stringer like one of the first things we told you to buy?!

Well, you can do it either way, but over time it can be hard on the tip. I would suggest buying a stringer. Their cheap and easy to use. I believe that you put more twists in the string to make your brace height longer, and take twists out to make it shorter.
