Its been about 10 yrs. or so since I shot a target league. Back when I did, I always used hunting set up because I figured if I was going to shoot I might as well shoot what I hunt with. Guess I was just shooting for the practice you might say. And to get out of the house. If I remember correctly, my average was low to mid 290s. Never kept trak of my Xs. Now our team would be shooting hunting rigs at 70 lbs. with hunting sights, shafts, releases, stabs., and most times quivers attached. Some of these other guys would be shooting 40-50 lbs., 3' stabes, scopes, backtension releases, you name it they had it. I don't recall them shooting the lights out on us. In fact we were always high or higher than some in the standings. How much inprovement in scores do you think a competion type set up would give your typical hunter?

Nub,having shot a lot of target archery in the past, and I also hunt.A good target setup would be far superior to a hunting setup.Although it's a good idea to shoot your hunting setup ,to make you sharp for hunting.
Good luck this season.

As long as you get a semi-forgiving hunting bow to start with (36+"ata 7=" brace) you should be able to slap on whatever target stuff you want, and still shoot well with your hunting bow.
That's why i got the bow I did. I can hit a 300 on a good day (average around 296) and that's FULL hunting set-up. I KNOW I shoot a LITTLE better with a good scope and long stab. For tournaments, a LITTLE goes a long way.
I don't shoot spot league anymore, so I just keep my pins on weather I'm shooting spots,3-D, or hunting.
(BTW...the target guys who THINK they can BUY a 300 round HATE it when a hunter beats them with a camo bow
