My broadheads were flying fine at the time, but since I had time to tinker I thought I'd try group tuning them like I do my field tips. I shot my horizontal and vertical ends at 30 yrds. and made the adjustments to rest and nock as needed. I had them shooting within 1" both ways. I was impressed and moved on to shoot some spots. My spot groups were acceptable at 30 yrds I guess but not as good as they were with my field tip tune. Its when I moved from 30 yrds. that they rapidly went to crap. Both ways, closer and farther they opened way up. Needless to say I put everything back the way I had it and all groups tightened back up. Why do you suppose the group tune method changed so dramatically from my field tips? My BHs always hit with my field tips, i just had the time to play.

When you group tune with broadheads, you tune the bow specifically for broadheads. When you group tune with field points, you tune the bow specifically for field points. Unless you've got your arrow spine and draw weight matched exactly dead on, when you tune to get both field points and broadheads hitting together you wind up with a compromise tune that is okay for both, but perfect for neither.

I understand what your saying Arthur, and I'd have thought I'd achieve those results. But when I reset my rig for the field tip tune, my BHs group better. I shot a 6 arrow group of 8" with 125 gr. Muzzys at 70 yrds.(just playing around)3 cut the bull. That was when I put it back to my field tip tune. With the broadhead tune at 70 yrds I doubt if I would have had a 2 ft. group. The group tune for my broadheads just flat out sucked when shooting spots at anything other than the yardage I group tuned them at.

Uh huh... I thought you meant you shot spots with your field points after group tuning the bh's...
In that case, I don't know what to tell you except you didn't have something right. Centershot off and causing the arrows to fishtail and plane off, not enough fletching to control the head, a little light on spine... something. Whatever it was, it had to be pretty consistent to group well at one distance and go down the tubes at other distances, closer and further.
If I had a setup that shot 8" groups at 70 yards with broadheads, I wouldn't have touched a single thing! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I think I was lucky on that 70 yrd. group. It was the last group after shooting off and on for most of the day. And I don't shoot that good. I'll try it again today though and see what happens. Think I'll set a pin for 70 this time though.
