I've used Muzzy's for years, I've tried Snypers and although I was very impressed with the Snypers, if having to choose one forever, it would definately be the 100 gr. 3 blade Bad to the Bone, Muzzys.
Why, I can drive tacks with my Muzzys out beyond 50 yards, I have no accuracy questions with Muzzy and they'll penentrate any game animal on the North American continent, no questioned asked.

I'm a little confused (which is not uncommon). If flight and performance were the same, then why would it matter what you chose? Wouldn't the results be the same? If you want to eliminate the two biggest differences among fixed vs mechanicals, then I will have to look through the Cabelas catalog and find the coolest looking broadhead and chose that.

You just haven't been looking in the right places. Get some screw-in adapters and a pack of Magnus I 4-blade heads. 1 1/2" cut. Been around for years and years... I believe the Zwickey Black Diamond Deltas are also 1 1/2" cut. 180 grain Snuffers are 1 15/32" cut. So close to an inch and a half that it doesn't matter.
The Magnus I with adapter shouldn't weigh much more than 180 grains or so... Excellent FOC!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Indy Hunter has a point, I'LL reply as to what I would use if I had only 1 choice of head for the rest of my hunting days.
Rocket Steelhead (probably 125)
They have placed at the front or VERY close to it on every penetration test so far, and the solid steel construction (and shorter blades) would reduce if not competely eliminate AK's problems.
But, the TOP reason it technology. in 30 years, we'll see bows shooting 400fps or better. THAT kind of speed will be VERY tough to get fixed blades to fly 1/2 way decently.
Right now, I am shooting "slick trick" heads (cause they look to be a neat design...just trying new things)

1. They work well with my 55# recurve (for those traditional moods) , I wouldn't use mechs with my recurve.

To answer that question , if the flight AND on game performance were the same (meaning I could use the mech on any large game with same results or no worries of kinetic energy with my recurve) , I'll take the mech. Why? They do fly better than fixed (high windage) and I like the baseball size hole they leave when exiting.

I have been bow hunting now for a total of 23 years. But I have only used mechanicals for two seasons, so I guess I know nothing right.
I have to admit that I have not used mechanicals for 5 years. I know that there has been improvements made since then, but I am not totally confident in them as I am with fixed. So if push came to shove as was asked in the topic, I would have to go with fixed, cut on contact, two bladed heads.
I had a few prolems with the Rocket heads that I used. First on the two deer that I shot with, I broke a total of three blades and bent one ferule. To me that is not tough enough. Yes, I could try another mechanical, but the fixed heads always worked for me.
Next, I practice with my hunting setup exclusively. I know that many people say that mechanicals will fly the same as field point, and many practice with just field points. However, maybe I am from the old school, I shoot the same arrows and broadheads that I hunt with (I sharpen the blades before every hunt). I have to be confident that what I am using for hunting will fly exactly the same as what I practice with. I couldn't do this with the mechanicals for money reasons. I kept breaking or bending the blades and ferules on the mechanicals when practicing. And since I practice a lot, I can not afford to keep replacing blades.
It doesn't say for those who have used them for 10 years either now does it.

I hope to see continued discussion on this subject from those with first hand experience. I've only been bowhunting for 5 years & have only used Muzzy 100's on deer - I was thinking of trying mechanicals this year but with all I've read on different threads on this site I'm thinking instead I'll spend more time tuning for broadheads before making a jump to mechs.
The only reason I wanted to move was for increased accuracy - but there's just too many folks saying fixed can be just as accurate - you just need a tuned bow.
