Baffled
Yesterday I was out on my practice range.
I normally shoot 40 50 yrds.On Wed. nights i go to an indoor range and shoot 20 yds.
Well yesterday I was hitting the bull at 40 and 50 so I moved in to roughly 30 yds and my arrows where hitting right of the bull by about 3 inches the elevation was spot on.
Then I moved into 20 yds and was again hitting the bull. So I moved back out to the other yardages and was spot on except for the 30yrd mark.
I am shooting a Pat at 70lb 28 draw
Gold tip 5575 XT's at 26" 100 grain tips 3 x 5" right helical vains.
I have the HHA Optimizer Lite single pin moveable sight.
Bodoodle pro lite rest.
Anybody have any ideas why I am shooting to the right at 30yrds but dead on at the other yardages??
Thanks in advance

RE: Baffled
Well, if you were shooting a multiple pin setup, I'd say your 30 pin is too long. With a sliding sight, either there is something wrong in the works, like a burr that's binding the sight bar, or it's an operator malfunction. Do you see any unusual wear in any certain part of the slide? How long has it been since you took it apart and cleaned it?

Russell, I'd say rest adjustment if the group continued moving right as you moved back, but as you say, that's not the case. Is it possible that when you adjust the pin, for elevation, it's moving it left slightly at the 30 yd setting. Did you try setting it for 20
yd, and shoot from 30? That would tell you if it's a problem with the sight, when set at 30. That is very frustrating problem.
Please e-mail me your phone #. I can't find it.

The elevation is spot on it is the windage that is out but only at 30yds I am still in the kill zone but what should be a good heart lung shot is only going to be a double lung shot.
Maybe I am being too picky but I want to make the best shot possible on a live animal and if I aim for a heart shot then I want a heart shot.
I take the sight apart and clean every 2-3 weeks.
The pin is straight I just checked it.
I will add that I have put 2 twists in the string to get the timing back to where it should be.

RE: Baffled
I understand your elevation is okay. I was thinking there might be a piece of grit or a burr on the slide that's pushing the sight bar off to the left around the 30 yard mark, but it would have to be pretty substantial to move your point of impact 3" at that one spot. Try Phil's suggestion and shoot the 30 yard target with your 20 mark and see where point of impact goes. I'd also do the same thing with the 40 mark. If they're both down the middle, I'd say there is some problem with the sight itself.
I can't think of any tuning problem that would put the group on at 20, off at 30 and then back on at 40 & 50, but I can't say for sure. Arrow flight okay? How does the bow do with broadheads?

Arrow flight is great like darts
Broad heads are impacting with fiels points and good flight with the B/H's as well
I will try what Phil said after work this afternoon
Hope your getting some of this rain over there Arthur sure has cooled things down here.

RE: Baffled
If the sight is not the problem, crank a couple of extra lbs onto the limbs (1/4-1/2 turn on each end, make sure you know how much so you can bring it back if it doesn't work, and you can try dropping off some too) and see what happens at 30. If it brings it in then check your other yardages, if good re-sight accordingly. Sometimes all it takes is a pound or two to bring the spine into it's "sweet-spot" at all yardages. I will agree that it is strange being able to hit 20 and 40 but not 30, but trying to figure out these things is half the fun of archery! Good luck! Pinwheel 12

Russell, You baffled??.......NO!
Hehe...just kiddin Mate.
One other thing to think about......not sure if it applies to you or not.
I've shot on ranges where the ground wasn't level at different yardages........say level at 20 yards......then level again at 40 or 50.
If the ground you are shooting on is uneven at your 30 yard mark.....giving a slight "Sidehill" effect on your feet its really easy to cant your bow and not even realize it.
This will force shots left or right depending on the angle of the hill.
It doesn't take much of a change.....just the slightest difference in level can go completely unnoticed if you don't look for it.
CHeck your sight's level, and shoot the bubble the same at all ranges and see if that may be it........if that's not the problem then I'm baffled too!!

It is ground level you will see when you get here.
I always use the level thats why I am so baffled I will try a few different things this afternoon and see if I can unbaffle myself
