How to choose
How do you pick the right arrow combination?
I have a set of aluminums with helical fletching that shoot well.
I also have a set of carbons with straight fletching that also shoot well. I have changed nothing when shooting the two different arrows and they hit in nearly the same spot. The carbons are smaller diameter and sit lower in the rest. I know the carbons are lighter with the same 100 grain field points and I will be using 100 grain muzzy's. I don't have a scale that measures grains but I do have one that measures grams and the carbons are 9 grams lighter. If they still both shoot well with the muzzy's which arrow would be better for whitetails?

RE: How to choose
rml27, the rest arms should be adjusted closer together for the carbons. You really should adjust them properly to test the broadhead/carbon combo. But that'll cause problems for the aluminums. The fletches on the aluminums will help with broadhead flight. Then, the carbons may fly just as well. I'd try both and decide by the results. The aluminums, by virtue of weight, should make the bow quieter. I can't remember how many grains per oz (around 450?), but 9 grams is a good bit lighter.

RE: How to choose
Well, using the above conversions I get the the following approximate weights:
Aluminums with 100 grain heads weigh 526 grains
Carbons with 100 grain heads weigh 403 grains
Carbons with 75 grain heads weigh 372 grains
That means the carbons with 100's are about 27 fps faster and the carbons with 75's are about 34 fps faster.
I am shooting at 62#'s if I go with the carbons I have to choose between the 100 grain Muzzy's or the 75 grain Wasp expandable's. I already own these and don't want to have to buy more. So far the 75's seem more accurate, I shot my best ever 3 shot 40 yard group using these. I am worried about the muzzy flight with the straight fletching. The aluminums fly well too but are slower and heavier. Do I have enough kinetic energy with the carbons and 75 grain expandable's? Is the extra speed worth it or should I go with heavier weight?

rml sorry about last nights post i had a bad tooth ache and i cant even tell ya what i posted.<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>
my carbons are just about set like yours and i'm going with the faster arrows. i like the speed and most of the people i hunt with do also. its really a personal choice if there both hiting the bull. whatever you feel most comfortable with.
