I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but I'll try.
If you look at the arrow from the point end, a right wing feather will angle across the shaft from left to right. Holding the nock end of the arrow in your belly button with the point straight out in front, and looking straight down on the feather, the leading end of the feather will be on the right side of the shaft, the feather will angle across and the trailing end will be on the left side of the shaft.
From what you say about the feather being too stiff to bend, it sounds like you're trying to put the feather on the opposite way. You want to follow the natural bend of the feather.
