Default Summit Viper X4

Well guy's! I know this has been asked in the past, but since I never owned one and only read a few thing's [good things] about the Summit Viper X4. I'd like to hear about the like's and dislike's with this stand,I paid $344.00 Canadian for this stand and I think it's a good price to have paid, since for over a year now I've been trying to find a distributor here in Ontario without any luck ,the only place that could get me one said that they had a friend heading for the U.S. and he could pick one up for me. Since I heard BassPro was going to open in only a few month's, I decided to wait and see what they had to offer. My patience paid off .
Please give me any helpful information that you can ,I'd certainly appreciate it.

Plain and simple, one of the best stands the market. Just adjust the seat straps so it keeps the front bar low and out of the way if you have to shoot at a steep angle. Get yourself the viper front or side bags to carry some good hunting junk with you, and you'll love it. Oh yea, climb with your safety harness attached to the tree also.

Not sure about the Viper.

But I've got a Cobra X-4 and the seat is too noisy in stock form where it rubs against the back bars. Try it an you'll see. Strap it to a tree and set it up as you would when hunting then sit in the seat and shift your weight back and forth, side to side. Makes a rubbing noise my deer won't tolerate (learned the hard way).
To "fix" it I wrapped the metal back brace portion of the stand (where the seat contacted the bracing) with cloth camo tape. The tape in between the two materials made the noise almost non existant.

Have fun hunting with it!

Dave C, I'm sort of confused as to what you are referring to. I too own a Cobra X4 and never had that particular problem. I did have it creek a little in cold weather, but once I filed the paint off the teeth like they recommend, the squeek was gone and its absolutely silent.

After re-reading your post I understand what you're saying. Question: Do you wrap the bungee on the seat back to the tree or to the cables? I tried wrapping around the tree, but didn't like that fashion much. I just wrap them under the cables and hook the two hooks together now. Gives the seat more room to play and seems better.

I've been looping it around the tree.
I hope I can remember your around the cable and then back to each other trick by the time next season rolls around.
Sounds like it might alow the seat more give.

There are some things you may want to do to the Viper to quiet it and to add convenience. PM me if you want the details. My mother-in-law is here and I can't be rude much longer![&:]

I have a Summit Viper X4 and love it. The only thing I did was put moleskin strips on the buckles of the saftey harness, I found that they tended to click against the stand when I stood up, otherwise it is a great stand as is.

nubo, I have owned and was happy with an API for years (until now). I needed replacement parts and tried on many occasions to contact API, they never responded so I switched to a Summit Viper. All I can say is I should have made the switch a long time ago. The stand is much lighter and packs easy. It climbs quieter than any other stand that I have used and is very comfortable. But most important is that the stand feels absolutely rock solid for my 175 lb frame. I am not a big fan of heights but hunt between 20 - 30 feet up whenever the conditions allow. I would recommend this stand to my closest friends.
