Default I bought the Mirage but !

Well, after all the good advice I got on the "HELP WITH FALL AWAY REST" post, I went to the shop yesterday with the intention of buying the NAP 4000. It was a little more than I could afford right now , so I bought the Mirage instead.I was able to get the one with the 3 screws and the shorter mounting bar, which I think has all the upgrades.Being the ultra smart person that I am I decided to lock tight all the screws so they won't come loose. The bar that holds one side of the lancher arm was a little crooked but while putting the rubber tubing on it and lock tighting the screws, I turned it around and it was straight.I took the two outside screws out that hold the rest bar to the mount and lock tighted them. All is going well so far. Took out the screw that GKF added to the bar,put lock tight on it but when I screwed it back in , it never tightened up. No, I didn't strip or cross thread it, It NEVER tried to tighten. Being an electrical tech. and working with a GREAT machinist, I can either drill the hole deaper and tap or put a little longer screw in it. After paper tuning which with every fall away rest I have tried, requires a fairly high nocking point. (not sure why)I tried the spring and cord, which shot OK but just a little woried about the spring holding up. I tried the rubber tubing but it reminded me of the zero peep tubing that breaks and hits guys in the eye. I settled for the cord by itself. Took the screw out, that holds the spring, and ran the cable thru the hole and tied the other end into my cable that goes down.Have shot some really good groups and like the rest overall but I fear the pull down bar that is attached to the launcher wire will either break the wire or wear the hole in the rest where the wire goes thru. I hope this doesn't happen. The BIGGEST problem I have is when you shoot with this rest, If you remember thoes hatchet cam bows of a few years ago, is the KAAAA WHACK it makes when you shoot. I had this noise with all three of the cable options. I could REALLY use some help as I can not afford to replace this rest before hunting season . Thanks, Don

Don...
Spring Cord holds up great ..Just got back from Hunting Local
Elk and Crawling through Brush and Spring cord Held up ,it is
inside the Bow riser below and protected by Quiver,no need to worry.
Twak ..It should not be making that Noise?
When the cup wire drops make sure the Pad is in place and put on
the silencer Rubber cover for the cup launcher that will totally Quiet that.

Don, i had a mirage on my patriot, it worked well but i have one of the older models and i did not trust it for hunting ( durability) The thing i didn't like was the actuator arm setup. It would be easy to strip and move while shooting. I was using my rest without the spring also, but it does put added stress on the actuator arm. Like GKF tech said check to see if your pad is postiond properly where the cradle drops, if it isn't you will get noise! I put a mini limb saver on the rest also, it seemed to help. Any way i went back to my GKF INFINITY rest for hunting, i trust this rest 100%. Good luck.

Help,,

My vanes are contacting the wire rest on my new GFK mirage fall away. I rotated the nocks and it helped...I have adjusted different spring tensions to no avail...I am running out of fletchings to replace the damaged ones....

4" Right Helical (bitzenburger) Duravanes, Beeman ICS Camo Hunter 340's 31.5 inches long, 70 lb Darton Cyclone.

I am using the spring and rope tied to the cable. it seems to fall back just fine when I manually pull down the lever - and when I let down the draw slowly, but my fletchings keep coming out all bent out of shape - -

Maybe it is time to put the bo-doodle back on??? Elk hunt in 8 days!

I started to put a Mirage on my Mathews yesterday but the Bolt that holds the rest to the bow wouldn't fit through the slot of the bracket that holds the rest to the bow. Took that as an "OMEN" to leave it off rather than file the slot. I'll look at them again when quality control is better. Maybe the new CAMO models will have all the updates on them. When are they due out?

The mirage is a great hunting rest. Make sure that the pad is in the correct position and you should be ok. as far as the bolt not fitting a Mathews, well I guess a wrong one could have got packed in the box but really when I sold Golden Key rests for 4 years I never had the wrong bolt in the package. I also know that the Mirage will fit any Mathews bow without any problems. It is also a great fall away for the new Legacy and Icon since you do not need to have to have a bar to attach to the cable slide.

les1cam if you think you got the wrong bolt please call Golden Key, they will send you the right one. I would also say go the shop that sold it to you, they should have plenty of bolts that will fit it. The number for Golden Key is 1-800-448-7378. They have great customer service and will help anyone that has questions or problems with their products.

It wasn't that the bolt didn't fit the Mathews. The bolt couldn't go through the Mirage Bracket that holds the rest to the bow. I'm sure it could be returned and Golden Key would make it good. (The bracket slot just needs to be reamed out and re-anodized)Anyone else would probably have filed it out, spray painted it and went on...

I have a question about this rest.

Is the cup wire spring loaded? Or does it fall out of the way by its own weight?

From the looks of this rest it looks as if it might make your arrows a little shorter. As if it is a slight overdraw. My biggest thing for waiting to put another rest on is that I have the Mathews 1" overdraw. I don't want to have to buy all new arrows just to switch rests. I have to wait until I need new arrows.

Thanks guys.

ILman..
The cup wire is Spring assisted to provide consistent Return..
and yes there is a slight overdraw effect like your Mathews
so this should work perfect for you.
