What do you think?.....
I would like to know peoples ideas on what is the ideal length for a "D" Loop. I think that a linger one allows more of a margin for error when taking a shot but that means a loss in drawlength and therefore speed, is there a good trade off length??? any suggestions would be appreciated

The best length for a d-loop would be having just enough room behind the nock (of your nocked arrow) for your release jaw(s) and clearance space.
Anything more than that is wasted draw length adjustment, and serves no beneficial purpose UNLESS you are going for a certain string-to-face position and hand-to-face anchor point while at full draw.

Black Frog,
I just switched from alum loop to a string loop the other night and that is the gap I was trying for, but after I sinched it up and pulled the bow back a few times I ended up with about a 3/8 gap that looked to big.
I did this twice and decided to keep it a little long for now.
Either I have 4 thumbs or need a little practice to get it right.

It takes some patience and practice to get the loop at just the right length. It almost has to be tied on the short side, and as you pull back a few times, the loop "settles" into just the right length.
After you do a bunch of them and get used to the thickness of loop material, you'll know exactly the length of rope to use and can precut them. I burn the ends of my loop material into balls so that they can't pull out and bash you in the face. <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> I know just the length I need after the ends are burned to end up with the final loop length on the bow.

word of advice....Cut a VERY small amount of rope off ea time to get desired length. There is a very small margin of error. It is easy to go too far and be too short and nobody likes being to short.<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>

Mine are 4.2", I cut and ball the ends first, it is about the smallest size that you can actualy tie on (my stuff is about 1/8", but once everything is seated, there is plenty of room. I don't have any nocks within the loop, which I guess is a factor for some.
As I have said before, I don't use them any more.

I like them to have just enough space for my release head & a little space....an 1/8 or so. like black frog said you almost have to tie them too short & stretch them out a bit to get them that way but I like th e feel when they are this length better than if they are longer.
