5 Shot, what are the specs (ata, brace height, mass weight) and stated speeds of the Rampage? Does it have a more deflexed riser like the maverick and others, or more reflexed?

rangeball, The Rampage is 38" A to A, and wieght is right at 4.1 pounds. The advertised AMO is 240, and doing some shooting at 40 yards with my 20 yard pin, and using a little chart, I bet it is realy close to that. This is the fastest bow I have owned. The brace height is 7". You can check it on Dartons web page. www.dartonarchery.com . I tell the more I play around with this bow the more I like it.

Hey 5-shot:

Nice report! The draw sure is silky compared to almost anything else, isn't it?

As far as that little bit of noise you are getting, I think I have isolated what little noise my Mountain Bow is making to the limb pockets. I think I remember Len posting something about quieting the limb pockets on his Maverick. Now, there are just two problems with this memory. First, this dates back to the days when Len and the Educator actually still posted messages on H.I.S. forums! The second is that as I'm getting older, the memory isn't what it used to be! If this is in error, I'm sure Len will set the record straight. Anyway, it might be a good excuse to take a little drive
to a first rate pro shop.

My bow has about the same noise and recoil as the HCA Carbon Force I owned for about a month. I only notice the noise I mentioned when I am shooting @ 66# with 360 grain arrows, and then it is still plenty quiet enough to hunt with IMO. Congrats on the bow. Hope you continue to like it.

Joe, you are right, I love that smooooth draw! Like I said the noise is not realy loud by any means, and is plenty quiet for hunting. I pretty much figured it to be the limb pockets( as I got everything else pretty quiet). I have a couple little tricks I was thinking about trying, but to be honest, I have hunted with much louder bows, and not had a problem, so I may just leave things the way they are. The Benifits of This bow FAR outwiegh any negitive I a may find!

5shot, I read in another post the Darton with the CPS cam was an easy bow to pull for the draw weight. My back is messed up from a car wreck. Do you think the Rampage would be a good bow for my situation? I'm shooting now at 57#, but still have some pain under my shoulder blade on my bow arm.
I had a guy at the pro shop look at my draw and he didn't feel it was a form problem. Thanks.

Phil.

Phil:

I know that I am not 5-shot, but I have had a similar pain under the shoulder blade that you are talking about due to a shoulder separation. I had to lay off for a while, then started back with reduced draw weight. For me, the Darton type draw is much easier than the late peak weight that many of the single cams have today. I had surgery back in June, and I can shoot my Darton at 66# without any real effort. I get no pain following shooting like I had for a while. I recently got another bow from a manufacturer who has a try out for 10 days program. Before the end of day 2, I was getting soreness, and I couldn't believe how much harder it was to draw the other bow than the Darton, plus the Darton was much faster. If I wasn't this happy with the Darton I have, I would definitely look hard at the Rampage. It seems like it should be a great bow. When guys on archery forums talk about how smooth a bow is, they are talking about many different things. In terms of smoothness of draw, I have not shot any bow with close to the speed of a Darton that has such a smooth draw. The only other thing I would add is that, with my shoulder, I have a much harder time letting the bow down without shooting than before. Not that it happens that often, but when I'm up in a tree stand and have to let the bow down for some reason - well, that's why I personally am not too interested in a Bowtech. The are very nice bows to shoot, but if I have to let down, now that is painful! Getting old and beaten up is not really that much fun, is it?

Avoid the inevitable until it is absolutely unavoidable!

Hi Joe, Thanks for the reply. I value anyone's info & help. I'm pretty new to this. I have a Bear TRX & like it, but if I can get something easier on my shoulder, I'd but it. I also saw on Darton's site the Cyclone 3D. More brace height. Do you think this would be any easier on me? Thanks again for any help. I apprecaite it. And yes, it is hell growing old with injuries. All the years racing motorcycles hasn't helped either.

pdq, Joe pa pretty well summed up my thoughts. When I talk about smooth I am refering to the draw cycle. I normaly shoot between 70 and 73 lbs, and I was supprised at how easy, and smooooothly the Darton CPS system draws at that weight. I am almost half tempted to but up the weight, but since this is the fastest bow I have ever owend( going by the arrow drop method of speed est), I don't see any reason to! I have had some shoulder problems from lifting wieghts, and I will tell you I shot my Rampage pretty much all day last Saterday, taking rest periods and playing with the draw lenth etc. I was not sore in the least. You realy have to try one to see just how nicely they pull. combine that with with all the other nice features and the speed the bow produces and You will see why I am so impressed. I just wish I would have considerd the Darton lineup sooner.

Thanks 5 shot. I'm going to a shop this week to shoot the Dartons. They have a Rampage & are expecting a Cyclone 3D. Did you try the 3D? I don't know if the higher brace height & less reflexed riser will help me or not. By your report, the Dartons sound real interesting. Hopefully I'll find the draw to be easier on my shoulder & join you as a Darton shooter.

I didn't shoot the cyclone 3D, I thought about it, but to be honest I figured the Rampage was the bow for me before I left home. I did handle the cyclone, and I bet it will be a very forgiving shooter with good speed as well. I just felt the rampage gave me the best "Blend" of speed and forgiveness.
Good luck with your search.
