arrow speed
Is there any way to quesstimate your arrow speed without a chrony.I am not concerned with on the money speed but a ball park figure would be OK.I shoot an 03 Cybertec @ 28" @ +/- 70 lbs with Gold tips cut to 27 1/2" and 100 gr. field tips or Muzzys.Ron

RE: arrow speed
Here ya go:
"Arrow Speed Chart from Eders Magazine:
Looking to discover how fast your arrows are shooting but don't have access to a chronograph? Well it's easier to figure out than you might think:This simple table will get you in the ball park. First, shoot your bow at a target from 20 yards using your 20 yard pin. Mark the center of the group. Next, shoot at the same target from 40 yards, aiming at the same point, but again using your 20 yard pin. Mark the center of the second group. The distance between these two marks will tell you your approximate speed.Distance between 20 and 40 yard groups (inches) Approx. Arrow Speed (fps)
28.7 = 220
24.2 = 240
20.6 = 260
17.7 = 280
15.5 = 300
13.6 = 320
12.8 = 330"
Hope this helps get ya in the ballpark. Be safe.

RE: arrow speed
I've used the chart on Eder's and found it to be a little on the fast side, at least compared to a couple of chrono's. I tried it with two different bows and was shooting exceptional groups on the respective days--like less than 2 " at 40 yards. I only wish I was getting the speeds this chart says. My Freedom, according to the chart, was doing 294fps. The bow chrono'd at 264fps. I checked it wath my Martin SlayR recently and was clear off the chart at 330+ (my groups were just about 11" low). This bow actually chrono's at 293+.
Considering both tests, my results showed just about 30fps too fast using the chart, but consistently 30fps too fast. Maybe you could try it and just subtract that 30fps. Who knows? I do know for a fact that I can see a difference of 30fps and three different chrono's can't all be that wrong. Besides, I'm more inclined to believe I'm not getting 330fps with 55# and 27.5" draw, but 293fps is right in line with what most guys are getting with the SlayR.

RE: arrow speed
no a chrono is the only way to accurately measure the speed an arrow comes off the bow string.
the formula above is not even close, I tried it and it does not work.
