You Pro shop Gurus and bow Vises
Point me towards the BEST Vise. I have two RS pieces of junk at my shop - I hate em...I mean HATE em.
I saw one somewhere that screwed into the stab threads - good or bad..??
How about the Apple - with the big yellow forks??
Help me.......I have the perfect pond across the street to put these RS vises to rest

Since you don't like the RS vice, the Apple vices are built like a tank. It will last you forever.
I personally don't care for the types that screw into the stab hole, too time consuming for "quickie" jobs that require a lot of in-and-out of the vice. And also you have to remove anything that is already in the stab hole. Like quick disconnects, slign mounts, etc...

I love my apple vice! Right now i dont have a table, so its just sitting on my deep freezer. The thing has fallen off so many times i cant remember, but it still works great. I havnt had any problems whatsoever. The red one however, seemed to be weaker in the arms, and i had a couple people say that they would bend sometimes when pressing down. I say spend the money for the yellow one.

RA,
The Erickson Vise seems to be well made and heavy duty.
Don't own one though so can't tell you from experience.
Here is a link to it.
It runs $52.99 + $4.50 shipping.

I like my apple, there is one problem with them. You cannot tighten it down, tight enough by hand. I always have to use a wrench. However, I use big bows by todays standards. Still the best I have found.

I bought a vice from the guy that Sag mentioned over on AT. His name is thunderhead, I believe. Seems to be very well built, although I've only had it for a couple months so I can't comment on it's long-term durability. But I don't anticipate any problems. Looks and works just like the Apple vice for a few $$ less.
