how do i figure out kinetic energy
I am shooting beman carbonICS 400 with vanes and rocket sidewinder 3 100 grain heads. My bow is a PSE Predator 29" draw length @ 56#s I have 2 string leaches on and also have limb savers on the limbs
I shot 2 dear and both of them the arrow only went in about 4 inches, without hitting any shoulders or big bones??? whats goin on???
HOW MUCH KINETIC ENERGY SHOULD I SHOOT??????

Well ........you need to know how fast your shooting and how much your arrow weighs !!
If your list your bow model , poundage, draw length, string accessories......and your arrow length, type of vanes ..........one of us is bound to have a reasonable guess !!
4" sounds like a tuning issue to me.........unless your shooting some very low poundage !!

RE: how to figure out kinetic energy
To figure KE:
arrow speed (fps) x arrow speed (fps) x arrow weight(grains) divided by 450240
I've put together a table that'll save you the calculation. I've got it in .pdf form. Send me an email address & I'll send it to you if you like.

I don't really think you need to crunch numbers, although it will answer your curiosity. By your own experience you should see that you don't have enough energy to be suing the broadheads you are using. I wouldn't even consdier using them unless shooting in the area of 65lbs. That's why tuning a bow is so important. You have to get all the energy in a straight line right behind that broadhead. And on any kind of quartering shot it's just a question as to whether your arrow will start cartwheeling instead of driving straight through.

This is a web site that is a quick estimate of KE, but you have to remember that there are many other varibles that contribute to the impact KE. This site gives you the KE at the bow.
