Default Quick Spine Question for Beamens!

I finally got my 29" Q2XL cam put on, and I'm making the switch to carbons. I'm having a dozen 29" Beamen ICS 340's made for me. Is this the right spine with my set up? I'll be pulling around 65 pounds, maybe a little more at times, up to 70. 29" is the right length for the carbons, that I'm sure of. I'll be using 125 grain tips.

The dealer said I was right on the line for using 340's and 400's. Which size in your opinion should I be using? He hasn't cut the arrows yet, but will tomorrow when I give him the go-ahead.

Thanks!

ABM, I use beman ICS 400`s @ 29"/with 125gr. tips. I shoot 67-70lbs., and they work great for me. The 340`s might work though, carbons don`t seem to be as fickle as aluminum when it comes to spine charts.

I use the Beman ICSCH 400's with my Merlin Hunter's Quest , I shoot at 29" AMO drawlength, pulling between 64-66lbs. The arrows are 28" long fletched 4" right helical,100g points and they shoot perfect bullet holes. I run my Beman customers just slightly LIGHT on the chart, through my experience this seems to work best, and I always install uni-bushings in the rear also with "G" nocks. By using bushings it eliminates loose nocks and cracked shaft ends, quite common with carbons.

Anyway, according to the Beman chart, you can easily run 400's between 65-70lbs. You only run into the 340 if shooting a 70-76lb bow at 29". Go with the 400's, you'll be fine. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12

I am shooting the ICS 340's..pulling 65lbs with a 30" draw length...I started with 125g tips and switched to 100g..To me..That is the perfect combination...

Well, he had the 340's all fletched up for me and told me they would work fine for my bow at 65 with 125 grain tips. I went with them, and hopefully they will work well. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

xt, why did you switch to 100 grain tips and what was the advantage you gained with it, besides speed?

ABM,

I am shooting a 29" draw length MQ32 at about 65lbs with 29" Beman 340 ICS Hunters (and other brands, too). Before I cut them to 29" I shot them at 31". They seemed to shoot better at the longer length which indicates to me that I might be overspined at 29". Pinwheel 12 is right about the spine chart although I do not think that you will notice a lot of difference with the 340 vs. the 400 spine especially if you don't use light weight points. I am going to increase my current point weight of 100 gr. to 125 gr. to see if my accuracy improves.

Good luck with your new draw length and new carbons!

Jerry,
When you get the finished arrows, weigh them on a grain scale for differences in weight from arrow to arrow.
A buddy of mine just did this with a dozen ICS 340's and he got a range of +/- 20 grains between shafts!! I wouldn't believe it from anybody but him.....he didn't even try to shoot them, just got rid of the entire batch.
Said they were the worst set of arrows he's ever seen for matching weights.

Also...... scrap the regualr nocks and throw a set of Easton Uni-Bushings and nocks in those Beamans.(I think the 3-49's work) but these will keep your arrows from getting banged and cracked in the rear if you are shooting tight groups.

Matt/PA, I hope your buddy got a bad set of arrows! I have probably gone through 5 dozen of the ICS 400`s, and the most variance I have ever seen is 3gr. in a dozen. If you want to use bushings with them, ACC 3-60 bushings work in them. I use super 3-d nocks in mine, but I don`t aim at the same spot twice, so I have`nt had a splitting problem.

I shoot a 30 inch draw, and use the beman carbon metal matrix 340 shafts, with 4 inch helical vanes and 100 grain heads. I get bullet holes shooting 65-67 pounds. I set up the whole dozen for hunting, weighed each shaft and head combo, and came up with a 2 grain difference in weight in the bunch. That impressed me, because I too have seen shafts weigh up to 20 grains difference from other companies.

Big COuntry,
I know what you mean.....when he told me that I said "You have to be kidding!?"
HE wasn't kidding.
He said a variance of as much as 20grs from the highest and lowest weights. Said they were the worst shafts he's ever seen......he knows his stuff too.
After that I don't even think that he will try them again.

Personally I've been using Carbon Impact "Fat Shaft" 6500 orange shafts for a few years now and I can't believe more people don't shoot these......I weighed a half dozen the other day on a freshly fletched bunch, and got 342,343 right across the board.
They also have what i think is the best nock system in carbon arrow with their "Roto" nock. They've been working great for me for both 3D and hunting.

So its a 3-60 uni bushing?.....I couldn't remember. YOU HEAR THAT ABM!??? throw some of those in the rear ends.
I know the point is moot for guys like you who know enough not to shoot at the same spot.......but ABM??<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
