I have had my Hoyt Xtec for a couple of week and decided to post a little review of it. This is short and sweet. As you may know, I started the year with a Hoyt Vipertec, and after about a month, realized it was not the perfect bow for me this year. I did not like the short ATA of it all that well. It did shoot very well for me, but it wasn't all that comfortable for me.

In comes the Xtec. The "X" is longer, 35 1/2 ATA and feels much like my 02 Cybertec which it replaces this year. Hoyt utilized the same riser that they are using this season on the Ultratec. The only difference is the shorter XT1000 limbs instead of the XT2000 found on the Ultra. Finish on the riser is excellent. I honestly didn't find any specs or blems in it. I did find a couple on my Vipertec I owned.

New this season was the TRIAX limb pocket system. Though I couldn't see anything wrong with what I felt was the best pocket system in the industry before, they found a way to improve on the design. It is supposed to offer a more stable pocket by increasing the contact the pocket and the riser have with one another. It does its job well. No slop or play at all and as usual from Hoyt, great fit and finish.

Shooting: This bow flat out shoots. Very stable in my hands and very, very little vibration. I feel it has a tad more than the Vipertec, but nothing that is very noticable. As usual with the Hoyt lineup, its was also very quiet. In my hands, this bow is very accurate. Once I got a tune put in it, I was quickly able to put together very respectable 3" groups out at 45 yards. It was much easier to do for me with this bow than my Vipertec was. I think this is attributed to the longer riser and ATA of the bow.

Nitpicks: I honestly don't have any really. This bow fits me perfectly and shoots very well for me. I now know that I prefer a longer ATA bow. As with my last gripe, strings left a lot to be desired from Hoyt. In two weeks of hard shooting, the ATA increased by about 1/4".

I haven't chrono'd it yet, but I will say that I would still like to see more speed out of Hoyt. This bow is rated at 310fps. We've been here for a while and I think its time for Hoyt to make a better attempt to speed things up some. But I'm not really complaining, if it shoots like this thing does, I'll take 300fps with a smile.

Lots of reasons you listed above is what made it so hard to decide between the Bowtech and the Hoyt. Quite honestly, speed was the most deciding factor. In order to match Bowtech's speeds, I would have had to get the Supertec which is purely a speed bow and may have been hard to sell if I had wanted to. If I get over this speed thing, I will definitely give Hoyt another look.

Mike, thats the only "flaw" in Hoyt right now. I'm not a speed nut, and am more of a forgiveness fan. This bow for me, exceeded the forgiving marks. Its just an awsome, stable shooting platform and I'm getting great accuracy. But yes, I would like to see more speed out of them. Especially given the fact that they are using a hybrid system and should yeild more speed.

Great review, I have been going back and forth with the X-tec and the Pat. SC and the Pat. SC keeps winning. I think the Cybertec shot a little better than the X-tec too. The Pat. SC has speed and a great feel with almost no recoil. I like the Hoyt's but agree that they need a smooth bow with speed.

Nice review and great looking set up. I wish there was a Hoyt dealer closer to me so I could shoot their bows. Oh well, I guess that's what I get for living in B.F.S.C.

Man that has to be the ugliest bow I have ever seen Now a Bowtech Liberty, that is a nice looking bow. Good review MUZ but don't you think you might be just a bit biased. JK Buddy

Right or wrong that was the deciding factor. I almost had him special order me a Razortec with the Spiral cams which would have put me right at the same speed levels as the the Patriot SC, but then I would have had a custom bow. If in the event that I didn't like it, then I'd probably be stuck with it. The spiral cams are 55-65% letoff and they are draw length specific/non adjustable. If I would have gone with the Hoyt, I would have bought the Razortec. The fit & finish on the Hoyt bows can't be beat though and they are whisper quiet, even on a bare bow.

I still don't regret my decision to go with the Pat though.

Dang you guys, I just got my new Protec in and I'm already drooling over the Xtec. I shot the Xtec last week and let me tell you, that is one FINE shooting bow. I may end up with one before the year is out. Congrats and thanks for the info muzzyman

Nice review Muz. I just got rid of my Xtec and would agree with your overall assessment of it. A great bow...very well made and pretty darn accurate in my hands. I would have liked just a tad more brace height though for that speed rating.

I definitely would not hesitate recommending it to anyone.
