Need a Woman Over Here!
My wife decided she wanted a bow too... Killer! Now we both can go the the range. But she could not pull back 60lbs so we went on the hunt for a small bow that fits her.
I found one! Parker Challenger! 31 A to A and under 3 lbs. She draws 45lbs no trouble. Now I could have and should have went to Morgantown and got a new one from a shop but. I thought I would do one search on ebay before we go and BOOM! there is was a Challenger fully dressed for less than a new one, even had all the SVL stuff on it. I couldn't help it I bid on it. Now she is Hyped about the bow and cant wait for it to arrive.
For the record we did not go to a bow shop test and then buy online! I hate when people do that. My Mother has a Challenger too. I thought I had a point to this post but I guess not. I think it is just real cool that my wife wants to do this too! Now my whole family has bow's.
Me Hoyt CyberTec
Wife Parker Challenger
Daughter PSE Nova Jr
Mom Parker Challenger
Step Dad Browning Eclipse
Grandfather Parker Ultralite Pro
I hope to keep her interested in the sport. Can I get a woman's opinion on this. How do I keep her interested in archery. It seems to me the reason why most people quit is because of frustration not shooting consistently. Having a hard time setting up there bow , or just not taking the time to set it up right. This is a mistake I wont make, but what other factors effect longevity in the sport for women?

Well, I am not a woman (no jokes Matt..) but I would think that you would use the same "techniques" to keep her interested as you would anyone else. Start her off slowly. Don't practice too much or she will get frustrated. Don't start shooting too far from the target. 10 yards is a great place to start.
My wife showed an interest in the sport a few years ago so I bought her a bow and started her off slowly. We practiced at 10 and 20 yards for the first few weeks until she finally felt comfortable.
Then we went to her first 3D shoot and she did great. I am not sure how your local courses are but ours have multiple distance stakes for the different types of shooters. Beginning shooters and children are encouraged to shoot from the closest stake. It makes is easier initially and much more fun if you hit the target every time (alot less expensive too if you can't find your arrows...)
I hope this helps some Grndzer.

I just want to say that's great you lucky dog. I'm truly jealous.
Did she shoot your mothers bow ever, even if it didn't fit just perfect, to give her an idea how it feels? I guess even if she did, if she hasn't shot a bow very much how could she expect it to feel except different. But you did say she pulls 45 lb., that sounds like a lot to me for a beginner.
Anyway, you're a lucky devil. You might not have any trouble keeping her interested especially if she starts kickin your butt. Have a blast.

Yea, She always said she didnt want to shoot. Then My Mother Got her bow and she is pulling 40 lbs. I told my wife just to try it. Well the 40 was allmost too easy for her to pull and my moms draw was a little to long but even at that after the first shot she said I want to do that again... and again after about 15 shots she was hooked.
Plus it is something we can all do together. The only thing holding her back was being able to pull it back. When she discover that she could do it, she wanted one.
P.S. She never said why she didnt want to try, I figured it out after she tried.

I got into archery with a serious alterior motive. I wanted to spend more time with my outdoorsman husband. I made a promise to practice and just to shoot targets, then I decided to try hunting. Not just for a day but I made a commitment to hunt for the whole season. It paid off with a beautiful 7 point near the end of the season. The Parker Challenger was my first bow. I got a HavocTec last month and sold my Parker on eBay. Great bow choice! Have fun shooting with your wife. Watch out though, she may just like it more than you!

Way to go Tribalscream! My girlfriend of nearly a year wants to take up the sport to spend a little more time with me too. I'm not sure that she will ever hunt but hey, Thats where I go for a piece (of mind silly's). Heck she has even gone to public library and got a book on beginning archery. I'm setting her up with a BowTech StalkerLite. a 26" 40#er will do for her.

My g/f informed me she always wanted to try archery, so I set her up for a lesson and she is hooked. She (me) just bought a Bowtech Extreme SD 40-50lb. She already is up to 44lbs and is always eager to shoot. The other day I got home from work and there it was, a huge box with my name on the packing slip, open it up and find a Mc Kenzie 3-D deer for me (us).

you said she's very competitive, well let her beat you just once on the 3-d she will be hooked for a long time. lol. im sure you can make up excuses as to why you were having a bad day as she would be rubbing it in. but im sure that smile would be well worth it.
