Default Misinterpretation

Boy, can things be misinterpreted. There was an article by Randy Ulmer about a Spot-Hogg newsletter where he quoted some specs.

I just got around to reading the Spot-Hogg article and realized that there may be a major misinterpretation of the information. The article says "When the bow was drawn(,) the launcher would rise to the up position about 4 to 8 inches before full draw (8 inches worked well on solo cams and closer to 4 was what was needed for two cam bows.)(.)"

The fallacy here lies in the "pickup" distance verses the "drop away" distance. These two don't always concur and our findings show about a 3:1 correlation between the two. In other words, the drop away distance can be from 1/3 to 1/4 of the pickup distance.

The pickup usually occurs much more gradually than the drop away. The microsecond that the tension is off the pickup string/arm/tubing, that arrow is free floating. This is very easily to see when using a drawing machine with finite adjustments.

A problem would arise if you made the pickup tension (on those other than the MZE) so extreme so as not to allow the rest to drop fast enough. In this case you would get rest interference as though you were using a standard rest.
