Default Group Size Question?

I recently joined an achery club and will have the opportunity to shoot at distances out to 100 yards. With binoculars, I can almost see the 100 yard target so I harbor no illusions about shooting at such ranges. I thought I would shoot at 20, 30, 40 and maybe 50 yards.

I am shooting a 33 inch Martin bow, Spot-Hogg Real Deal sight and Trophy Taker Shakey hunte rest. Just basic stuff. Is there a customary number of arrows one shoots in group? What would be considered respectable group sizes for these distances?

Thanks for you help.

I' m not sure if there is a customary size for groups. I usually shoot 4-6 arrows if I' m shooting a group. IMO, the more the better. Your groups should be 1 inch for every 10 yards. At ten yards a 1 inch group, 20 yards 2 inches, etc. You will likely ruin a lot of arrows shooting groups at 10 and 20 yards.

For now, that' s probably a good decision. But when you start getting comfortable with 50 yards, go on over and start working on the 60. When you get comfortable there, start working on 70. Long range shooting really shows up any inconsistencies in shooting form and lets you clean them up and fix them. When you get to where you can nail those long range boogers, anything under 30 yards is a slam dunk.

I started my competitive shooting with field archery and we shot 4 arrows at each target. I got into the habit of shooting 4-arrow groups and still do. Any time you' re shooting groups, you risk wrecking a couple of arrows. The closer the target, the more chance you take.
