Default FOC?

I calculated my FOC last night on my arrows and it was 6.69%. I think it is supposed to be 7-10 right? How is a FOC of 6.69 going to hurt me?

Not much problem if you' re talking about a pure target shooting arrow. Not so with a hunting arrow. The arrow will not be as stable as one with a higher FOC and it will be harder to tune. It will also be more likely to amplify any shooting errors you make. If you' re talking fixed blade heads, those problems are magnified. I don' t have any hard evidence to back it up, but I' m convinced that an arrow with low FOC does not penetrate as well as one with high FOC, especially when it comes to quartering shots and any shot that encounters bone, however slightly.

My preference is to stay between 10-12%.

How much will I gain if I switch from a muzzy 3 blade 100 grain to a 125 grain?

You can also increase your FOC by going from vanes to feathers.
Feathers will help three fold. They will increase the FOC due to less weight in the back of the arrow, they generally do a better job of stabilizing a broadhead, and by not changing the point weight, you will not adversely effect the spine of the arrow. This is especially true if you are on the upper edge of the spine for your arrow.

I' ve always had the best luck with an FOC at 13-15% with fixed broadheads. But in order to get these results, I have to add weights to the back of the insert.
