Arrow speed Question - Carbon/Alum
This will be my 4th season to bow hunt. My shop originally set me up with aluminum arrows (2213) and 100 grain heads and I have never changed. My question is: Would there be a really significant gain in arrow speed by going to a properly spined carbon arrow and how would penetration compare to the heavier aluminum arrow? My bow is set at 56lbs draw weight and I shoot fixed blade broadheads at a maximum distance of 25-30 yards. Would it really be worth the price/trouble?

RE: Arrow speed Question - Carbon/Alum
If you go to something like the Beman ICSH, you won' t notice any speed, trajectory or penetration differences out to 30 yards. Your 2213' s weigh around 8.9 grains per inch. ICSH 400' s weight 8.4 grains per inch. That' s only 14 grains difference for a 28" arrow.
There are lighter carbons on the market, but I wouldn' t recommend using them on a 56 pound bow, especially if penetration is a concern.

Try a Goldtip 3555 (7.5grn per inch) with an 85grn mechanicl broadhead, use 90grn fieldtip for practice. I would not be surprised to see it add another 20fps. 28" at 240fps = KE of 44ft.lbs, a complete pass through. Although these are a carbon shaft, which you may or maynot like. It worked for me. Try going to www.goldtip.com and use their calculators. Good luck...

RE: Arrow speed Question - Carbon/Alum
I agree with Arthur and would not go with lighter arrows at that draw weight. Since the speed difference would be negligible, the only reason to switch would be the durability of carbons over aluminums. If your alums are shooting great I can see no reason to switch.
Also, I would not recommend mechanical heads with that setup. A goo fixed blade like the Muzzie or Montecs or a cut to tip 2 blade like the Steelforce heads would be a better option.

Ditto on Arthur' s comments. Any gains in trajectory/speed would not be substantial. Penetration would probably be similar and, again, you probably would not see a substantial difference considering the two shafts in question. About the only benefit with switching in your case would be durability.
Hope this helps.
