Bow 1- 70# KE
Bow 2- 63# KE

Momentum- no Idea. Just when I thought I had this stuff pretty much figured out, The rules have once again changed.

So, how many whatevers of momentum do I " need" to kill something (deer, pig, dog, hog)??

Dave, with that high of ke, I assume your momentum is up there as well. Just in case you want to figure it, take your arrow weight x fps and divide it by 225,200. This will give you your momentum figure.

Dr. Ashton' s study showed a momentum of .57 increased the likely hood of penetration adequate for a killing shot by 80%, even when encountering bone on the largest of beasties (rhino, cape buff, etc). I wish he would break down what is needed for similar performance on whitetail size creatures. Perhaps in his next study...

64# KE

Bmott

What do you hunt in NJ with 105# KE? Dump Trucks? Cement Mixers? You must hardly worry about a buck standing behind even the biggest tree....just shoot through it, and still get a complete pass through!

I shoot a Hoyt Protec with spiral cam 1/2s, the draw length is 32 and the bow is set at 86 lbs.
I have been shooting a bow for over 35 years. I happen to be a big person and I like to shoot heavy poundages, the bow just feels better for me.
I have old Grand Slam Bows over 100 lbs., an old Jennings Elephant bow as well as an old PSE Lazer at close to 100 lbs. I have recurves that I have always shot in the 70-80 lbs. range. Like I said, the heavy weight just feels better to me. And up until the last two years I have always shot instinctive and the heavier weight aided the cast of the arrows.

Wow... For those keeping score, that' s .737 in the momentum department...

It' s official. Close now counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, nukes, and whatever Bmott happens to shoot at...

Bmott, what broadheads do you use? Please tell us some stories of deer you shot, especially if bone was encountered...
