Default mechanical broadhead cutting Dia.?

HEy Guys, what suggestions do you have for cutting diameter of 100g mechanical broadhead? Looks lke there are cutting Dia. from 1" -3"
I like the idea of a wide cut (1-1/2" , 2" , 2-1/2" ) what are the pros & cons?
I' m shooting 60#, 28" DL, 282fps and have 62+#KE arrow weight with 100g tip 351#....... also what Mechanical Broadhead brands do you suggest???????
(mainly for whitetail inside of 40yds)

I am a big fan of the Rocket Sidewinders - they have a 1 1/2 inch diameter and a rock solid " pathfinder" tip. It' s a very strong broadhead. I' ve had pass through' s on every deer I have taken. My bow is set at 64# and I am shooting a 406 gr carbon.

The wider the cutting diameter - the more KE you will probably need to get a pass through.

I think most people will agree that 55# of KE is required to open most mechanicals. Anything over that will help with pass throughs.

Wasp Jackhammer SST 100 gr. 1 3/4 " diameter and flies true with field points. I' ve taken my last three deer with them. Huge blood trails and never any failure.

Good Luck!

There they are again, those wasp jackhammers keep popping up as peoples favorites. And the wolly world on the way to my lease carries them. Hmm.

As far as cutting diameter goes. Comparing the actual # on the box between different brands can be misleading. And 3 vs. 4 blade will equal a difference in actual blade distance from center even though they carry the same cutting diameter. Compare opened heads and you will see what I mean.

generally, your best off keeping it under 2" you really start loosing penetration when you go so big.
PERSONALLY, the 1 3/4" would be as big as I would ever go.

With your KE level limit your cutting diameter to no more than 1 3/4" for a three blade head and no more than 2" with a two blade head. Nap scorpioins, rocket sidewinders and steelheads, rocky Snypers gators and Ironhead XP' s and any of the vortex/Mar-den line as long as you stick two the two blade heads 2" or less. All of these heads work great, Oop' s I forgot to mention the wasp jackhammers
