Old or New Summit Stands
Looks as though the line up for the summit stands are a changing. I am wondering if anyone has looked at the new ones and can tell me if there are any downsides to the new model. I am looking at the 2002 Summit Viper and the 2003 Bullet. The Bullets fold but I a wondering if there is compromise on noise, security, comfort, and ease of use. Anyone who has had a chance to use them both I would like to hear from you. I can pick up the Viper for 229.00 at the local store. I am still waiting for the Bullets to arrive. Any info would be beneficial.

RE: Old or New Summit Stands
Last year i bought the cobra. I love this stand it is very light 16 lbs. has padded arms and backrest, has adjustable seat. Is very quick and quiet to set up. It is also balanced well for backpackingit in. The cables are great they in my opinion are much better and easier to use then the api' s chain. I believe the viper is the same except has a foot rail or shooters rail I don' t remember which. Anyway you look at it you cant go wrong with summits stands.

I have a new broadhead just waiting to be climbed with! I just have not had time with all the rain. The best I can tell the only real differnce is the knob and folding support that allows the stand to fold flat. This feature really makes backpacking the stand a lot easier, but it will take about 2 minuets longer to setup vs the standard cobra/ viper stands. I think it would be a small price to pay considering how well the stand " carries" .

I still have one of the original Summit climbers hanging in the garage in case someone needs to use one somewhere. What a tank....They certainly have come a long way!
I think every year stands just get better, no matter the company. As far as the difference between last year' s model and this year' s, well that can be decided by something as simple as what kind of money you have in your wallet to spend, but for those who have a stand that is somewhat (or alot!) dated, the differences are astounding. RE: Old or New Summit Stands
Just bought the Summit Goliath for $249 and change. I went to a hunting show where Summit had every stand displayed and tried them all. That 2" extra width really makes a difference for us big and tall folks. I' m sure looking forward to a day in the woods.
