Vanes they be curling
Hello to all you homegrown,do-it yourselfers,Archer Specialists. I' m a first timer on this board and was hoping ya' ll could tell me why my fletchings (plastic 4" duro' or boning) sometimes start curling? Is it something I' m doing wrong? Thanks

They are making contact with your rest. You need to adjust the rest (what type?) or index (spin the arrow on the nock) so that the vanes will clear the rest.
Or..... you are just shooting to darn good and slamming them together in the target

Since I rarely have a tea kettle handy when I' m out shooting, I' ve done the lighter trick and it works. You' ve got to be careful though, because there' s a fine line between getting them warm enough to straighten but not so warm that they' ll melt.
Of course, when my vanes get to that point, that' s when I strip that junk off the arrows and refletch with feathers.

One wrong nick, and your vane arrow is ready for the Bitz (or Jo-Jan or BPE, or whatever). Rip off 1/2 of a feather and it still will group just fine.
