Well, I can' t take credit for the idea...it was someone over on ArcheryTalk who started it. He used a tie down strap around it to hold it together, but for me the lid works just fine. I have mine filled with old clothes and the arrows really pull out easy.

Ever had a pass through? I assume the clothes are packed in pretty tightly, no?

No, never have. I do have them packed in pretty good, but I haven' t even hit the back yet. I think I put a layer or two of carpet at the bottom also. Yea, a passthrough in the living room wouldn' t be good. lol A friend was going to put rubber mud flaps in the bottom, but hasn' t gotten to it yet. That would stop most anything. I had plastic styrofoam stuff in it at first, but I could hardly pull the arrows out.

Update:

I tried several things...................

I went to wallmart and bought the triple expanding foam. Bought two cans. Supposed to fill up an apple size box right? WRONG! Did not even fill up a third of the box. So I pissed away $11. on that one. Then I bought a 4 ft by 8 ft sheet of R10 insulation foam, cut it into 2ft by 2ft strips and glued them together. This one works good with BH' s and FT. The FT are pretty hard to pull out. I can tell from the way it performed that shooting BH' s into this thing that it will not hold up long. So I guess I am still looking for the ultimate home made BH target.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

MA: For what you spent on those 2, you could have got yourself a good chunk of that EPS.

Yak, yak, yak. Here' s what I did and it' s cheap too:

2 landscape timbers
1 2x4x12
scrap plywood for a roof/floor
several sq ft of old carpet

Bury the timbers vertically into the ground about 36" apart. Cut the 2x4 into 3' pieces. Lag bolt two 2x4' s frt and rear on the bottom and two on top however high you want the target. Mount the frt upper board about two inches higher in the front than the the rear. This will allow a roof for the plywood laid on top to keep water off the carpet. Cut a piece of plywood for a floor to lay carpet on. Stack pieces of carpet cut about 12" thick/back and 32-35" wide (to fit between the timbers). Keep stacking the carpet to height desired. You can sinch down the carpet with thread-all on both sides or a ratchet strap. With a little elbow grease the target can be made for about $10.

I would think that you would never be able to get a BH out of this target. Sounds like it would work with field tips though. Do you shoot BH' s into this?

If you' re talkin to me mathews, yep. I use Muzzy' s with practice blades. With threadall, you can adjust the pressure to allow the arrow to travel through a little more or less.
