All the deer I have taken have been within 25 yds. 3 years ago I was ready to take a doe at 38 yrds but she never cleared the brush.

My longest shot was 27 yards on a doe that never knew what hit her. Quartering away shot took her behind the right shoulder and out in front of the left shoulder, resulting in a flipped deer and no tracking job. Honestly, I have not had too many situations where I had to decide whether or not to shoot. Most of mine have either been in range or not. Not too many in the 35-45 yard range. But, I have been happy with the choices that I have made as far as shot selection.

The longest shot I' ve taken was about 12 years ago in WV on a real nice buck. He was at 33 yards, unfortunately I guesstimated 30 yards. I was shooting a PSE set at 74#, with 30" 2219s and a 160 gr Thunderhead. He was standing broadside and the arrow zipped right under his chest just behind the front legs.

Unbelieveably, he didn' t alarm he just looked quickly in my direction, I was on the side of a tree in a treestand. He didn' t see anything that alarmed him and he just made a left turn on the logging road he had just stepped up onto and walked away. I then had the thrill of watching him work/freshen scrapes as he zigzagged down the logging road.

I wanted to take another shot, unfortunately, when he worked the first scrape he was about 43 yards away and the canopy prevented any possibility of an arrow getting to him. It was a thrill though!

I took a shot at a doe just over 500 yds running threw a field and hit it threw the head, I will say this it was more luck then skill, but I had three people there to see it.

With my setups and terrain I never have nor ever will have a shot over 30 yards! It' s why I bowhunt. I' ll keep the longer shots for gunhunting.
